  The vodka thing is from the Dutch national ballet I think (listening to the accent). They have these “open day” once a year where you can watch everything backstage. And yes they told us that they use vodka after every show. You couldn’t smell it, so I guess it just evaporates or something.

  One of my “getting older goals” is based on a woman in her 80’s who at every barre during pliés, farts… audibly. And no one says anything. Not even a smile. Oh to get old enough no one will call you out for such things.

  Former professional costumer here, from theme parks to Broadway tours. The vodka thing is true. Has to be 100 proof though—as it evaporates it takes the odor with it. If it is a lower proof the water remains and odors linger. We used to clean leather Klingon outfits worn in 100+ degree weather with it, and if it can get out odors from that, it can get odors out of anything!

  My daughter (22) and I have been going to see the SF Nutcracker since she was 4. She grew up dancing Tap and Ballroom, and continued Ballroom through Uni (Go UC Berkeley Ballroom 💙💛🐻).   Yes, actors clean costumes with vodka too, especially during mid-week performances, bc you&apos;re trying to make it to Monday (usually the &quot;dark&quot; day, and maybe the day they get cleaned, if at all). And yes, the smell goes away almost immediately, not like old beer or something 😊

  Using Kitri for the Indian classical dance comparison also makes sense because Flamenco came from the gypsy/Romani people in Andalusia who originally came from India
