Charles Barkley said, "Larry Bird cant run. Larry Bird cant jump. The only thing Larry Bird can do is play basketball better than everyone else."

We all know it's Magic and Bird who saved the NBA... 2 amazing men that had an epic rivalry and later became the best of friends.. How amazing is that?.. It doesn't get any better then their story.

You see players today break a fingernail and they’re out for two weeks ! Larry Bird broke his cheekbone, came back in the game and lit it up !!

He’s athletic as hell, bro. He just doesn’t look it. Don’t be deceived by the cover of the book.

Larry broke his knuckles in a baseball game, after he got drafted by the Celtics. He had to have surgery and had pins put into his fingers, but he didn't tell anyone about it at the time. He had to change the way he shot, because he said he never had a good feel for the ball after that. So that's probably why his shot looks ugly on release, but when you look at it in the air and how it hardly ever touches the rim, you get over the release pretty quickly. He still had multiple 50/40/90 seasons. Was around a 40% 3 point shooter even though he had to learn the shot while he was in the NBA. The untrained eye says he looks slow, has an ugly release, whatever. But the more you watch how he dominates everyone he ever played again, including Jordan (swept him twice in the playoffs), you just need to forget all that stuff that you think makes an impressive basketball player. Effort and hustle is more important than physical characteristics. Dude was one steal short of a quadruple double in 3 quarters and didn't even play in the 4th. They call him Legend for a reason.

Bird is so underrated. He's just shy of 6'10". I think if you would have gotten to see the NBA then, you would have loved and appreciated the game then too. Bird came back out and beat the Pacers after smacking his face off the hardwood with a fractured right cheek bone.

One thing you need to understand, Larry Bird was the first to make the step back dangerous. Many say he may have invented the move itself.

If he did invent it or not, he was the first in the NBA to become a master at the move. Because he knew something about the move. If you get great timing with it, you drop people on their asses.
