I just love how Naoya dies the same way he said a woman should be killed: Stabbed by the back.

I'm just realizing that the fear that Ogi felt was Maki's cursed energy dropping to zero and her heavenly restriction coming into effect after Mai's death, meaning he could no longer detect her at all and was all alone in a huge dark room preparing for an attack that could come from anywhere.

One thing I think is getting overlooked is that the reason Nauoya initially touched Maki's shoulder wasn't to tease her, but it was to force Maki to also have to move at 24 fps for one second, otherwise she would get frozen and turned into that glass sheet.

So the ending is Maki realizing this, after counting the individual movements Naoya made each second, and matching her movements to the technique in order to punch Naoya in the face. Such a satisfying punch.

The scene where Maki kills her mother is incredibly well-crafted in the manga, while the anime skims over it a bit, presumably to make way for the action sequences and avoid spoiling the viewing experience. At the start, Maki’s mother tells her not to go to the Shrine of the Deceased, but Maki defies her anyway. After her awakening and slaughtering the entire Zen'in Clan, Maki is desperate to know why her mother stopped her—whether it was out of maternal love to protect her, or merely as a servant following orders. This question holds the key to whether there was even a shred of warmth and familial affection left for Maki in the Zen'in Clan. When her mother finally comes face to face with her own daughter, she has nothing to say; like everyone else, she only shows terror and panic in front of Maki, flailing about like a dying fish. It is then that Maki succumbs to utter despair, and with Mai’s words of destroying everything ringing in her ears, she finally turns on her mother. Yet her mother does not die instantly. Deep down, she has always loved her daughter dearly, but the long years of oppression and confinement by the Zen'in Clan made her fail to recognize that love until her final moments. Freed at last from the role of a "Zen'in Clan maid" and reclaiming her identity as a mother, she stabs Naoya—the very embodiment of all the filth in the Zen'in Clan—to finish him off in her dying breath, an act of rebellion and a testament to her maternal love for Maki.
