  I lived in Germany for over ten years, then moved to Switzerland. The most stupid thing was shutting down the nuclear plants, importing electricity from France, and after several months declaring nuclear power green, when the plants are already gone... Bravo!

  as chinese i once worked in german car industry. one day the factory have a problem to finish a order on time, so the manager came to ask who can do a overtime on freitag abend, NO ONE said yes, all of them go home.

  Energy costs in the UK are even higher than Germany. The crazy net zero strategy will achieve a goal. Trouble is, that goal is zero UK industry.

  I own a Mercedes 300 SL, made in 1988.  It's built like a tank, with thick steel and incredibly strong fixings; when you work on it it transmits the feeling of true quality into you hands.  It runs and runs with basic maintenance,and after 100,000 miles it's still going strong.  This is how Germany built its reputation - with products ike that.  I realise that the economics have changed, but globalisation and China have always been a double-edged sword for Europe.  It's now time to pay the piper for years of greed.
