I love when you speak like an in-universe scholar exploring the world around you.

The reason I think why Mara's temple is always located in those sick places is because she's the goddess of love. Those places are in need of love.

I really like the roleplay and narrative approach of these videos. They truly feel like the thesis of an in-universd scholar, or the journal of an adventurer, which is unique and refreshing. While I have by no means finished this video, I just wanted to say: keep it up, these are great!

Something that I feel is rarely mentioned in these discussions is Lorkhan's motivation in all this. We know he was instrumental in creating the Mundus. It was his idea, and depending on who you ask he convinced or tricked the others, maybe it's even his own plane of Oblivion. But why? Why go to all this trouble? For fun? Just to cause some hijinks?

Anyway, it's relatively straight-forward if you've got a grasp on elder scrolls metaphysics: Lorkhan wants to escape reality.

Being very close to the top of the hierarchy, I believe Lokrhan knows the truth of things. He knows of the dream, and of the dreamer, and of the secret syllable of royalty. He knows that this cycle will repeat, ad infinitum. And he wants out. But how can he do it? Amaranth is the goal, then: to create a new dream, and become a new dreamer, unburdened by the old. But Lorkhan himself is far too close to divinity for that. How can one separate himself from the dream when he's so close to the dreamer? Despite his divinity, he's powerless to escape the dream. This was the real purpose for the Mundus. Create a realm of the limited and fleeting, even further from divinity, further from the dream, so that they might reach enlightenment in his stead. This is why there have been so many avatars of Lorkhan over the eons. Another hopefully familiar concept is mantling--to walk as another until the universe can no longer distinguish between the two. Lorkhan himself cannot achieve Amaranth, but if another were to do so, and that person just so happened to be an aspect of Lorkahn, it would be just as good, as Lorkhan and his fragment are one and the same.

Much of this theorycrafting comes from Kirkbride's writings, and personally I consider that as good as canon in most cases. Your are, of course, free to decide for yourself. Though, I've yet to see any other compelling explanation for why Lorkhan bothered with any of this in the first place, and as far as I'm aware these ideas all fit very cleanly into what is "official Bethesda canon" (for all the good Bethesda's writing is worth these days).

The Theology of the Elder Scrolls is my favorite in any fictional universe. The esoteric aspects go above and beyond compared to anything else I've experienced. TES Lore is an awesome read
