Just to clarify, when Parz is referring to the BSES when they lobbied to have the ban on cane toads lifted in '36, the bureau was comprised entirely by cane farmers.

When the BSES was conceived in 1900, it was made up of equal parts scientist and growers, as a check and balance system to make sure the scientists weren't just doing willy nilly and working to the cane growers' interests. In fact, the reason why they took twenty five years of initial experimentation was because the entymologists who were there were being extremely careful to find a solution that didn't disrupt the ecosystem.

However, with the experiments not yielding any results and their profits dropping lower and lower per season, the cane growers lost their patience. And so they began to lobby to have the researchers in the bureau removed and essentially gutted the brass to only have the big money growers in charge. And so, with no scientists to check their methods (or at least, none in a position to object), the farmers went for the first "solution" that sounded good on paper but would wreck havoc on Australian wildlife.

Also, the Cane Toads aren't even from Hawaii, they are from central America.

And they lay so many eggs, because normally it's like 1 to 0.1% of the eggs that make it. Meaning it's between 80 to 300 or 8 to 30 (something like that) cane toads that reach maturity per clutch, and the Cane Toad lay eggs twice a year.

The beetles are typically called Greyback Cane Beetles or just Cane Beetles.

There's some more good news! We've found out that our meat ants (Very aggressive little buggers) are immune to the poison. We now lure meat ants to waterways where cane toad eggs/tadpoles are using tinned cat food so that when juvenile cane toads emerge, the ants will bite them, which in turn cause the juvenile can toads to stand still and wait for their poison to kill what's attacking it, which in turn makes more ants come and bite into the fresh meat, making the toad stay still and... essentially be eaten alive because the ants are not affected by the poison... And its highly effective.

I remember someone posting a tweet saying something like "How long until there's a Bluey episode where the family bonds over killing cane toads?" Lol
