  There's also the Palacio da Pena in Sintra, Portugal. A curious blend of several architectural styles with beautiful, forested gardens. It's iconic tower gives you a fantastic view of the Portuguese landscape and its gardens have that "fantasy" feel.

  I've been to Neuschwanstein and it is quite nice, if incomplete. The throne room has a vast mosaic floor of something like 4 million tiles. But also, growing up in Germany as an Army-brat we lived in a very small town in the middle of almost nowhere and in a forest just to the north of town there are the ruins of a castle that was a favorite place to hang out as teenagers called Burg Waldeck. I think there has been some restoration and use made of it since then, but at the time there was only a small sign with a name.

  I am from country with the most castles per capita so for me visiting castles is smt I really love and enjoy, best way to spend weekends 😊

  I’ve been lucky enough to visit several of the castles and palaces you featured. I visited Neuschwanstein, Heidelberg and Lichtenstein while stationed in Germany as a soldier from 1986–88. In 1992, I visited the Palace of Versailles with my parents and sister. Then in 2021, my husband and I visited the Alhambra in Granada and the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos in Córdoba.

  My wife and I stayed at the Black Castle near Tullaun Ireland.  It is a near authentic restoration of the beautiful tower castle amidst the boggs..

  I was just about to depart this video. I gave it a like and I'm not typically one to comment. Edinburgh Castle is the only one I've been to and it's remarkable. I stayed at the foot of the castle through all four seasons. As an American this is like living in a fairytale. Especially because the Scottish are oh so kind. It felt like home.

  I'm surprised hohensalzburg castle isn't on this list. It's positioning above salzburg and it being a city within itself is simply amazing.

  I am surprised that Czech republic with the highest density of castles is not on the list. From top of my head, Karlstejn, Lednice, Hluboka, Prague castle (the biggest castle complex in the world) and Cesky Krumlov castle are castles that are somehow out of the world.
