I think Austin was having an incredibly vicious mental break but he still needs to be held accountable for taking the lives of 2 innocent and great people!!
RIP John and Michelle

During a phone call while Austin was in jail his dad praised him for "doing a real good job not talkin to the police" and Austin also asked if they looked for a psychiatrist yet and his dad told him not yet but they're going to. Austin was begging him "can you please do it soon". His parents definitely never took any of it serious enough.

Austin is one of the clearest cases of not guilty by insanity. I can 100% understand how it doesn’t change the loss from the victim’s family but he wan’t in reality and it probably is a nightmare for him as well to come back to reality and realizing he did all of that. He asked for help but his stupid family dudn’t get him the help he needed

It was clear he was struggling with his mental health for a while before he killed them poor people!
The parents should have sought out help for him when he first started acting strange, maybe things would of been different.
Condolences to the family and friends of the couple that were killed.
Rest easy Mr and mrs Stevens 💔

I used to be the assistant teacher for this little boy in Wichita, KS, at a daycare. His little brother was a little student there as well.
Their mother, Vashti Seacat, of Kingman, KS, was murdered by their father, Brett Seacat. I've been wanting someone to speak on Vashti's case. She was an amazing mom and super sweet. We were only acquainted, but you could feel her vibe and energy. You just knew she was a pure and good soul.

If the family has a history of schizophrenia and he was taking drugs, he could have triggered a drug induced schizophrenia. It does happen. The family knowing there is a history and setting up an appointment to get a diagnosis, then taking him to a gun show does not make sense AT ALL and could be considered negligent...

I think one thing that is often missed here, is another feature of those phone conversations with his Dad. If you listen to Austin, he has zero emotional inflexion in his voice . That is well understood to be a major part of schizophrenic symptomolgy. The delusions described would also either suggest schizophrenia or possibly manic psychosis.
Another point being, drug psychosis is actually quite rare, especially in people who don't have underlying mental health issues. Also, most drugs that would be likely to cause psychosis, are definitely readable from a blood test.
I totally understand why the relatives were angry, I think anyone would be. However, a genuinely delusional person is really not living in the same reality, after all, what is reality outside of our perception of reality? As someone who has bipolar disorder, and has had manic psychotic breaks, I'm speaking from experience.
Another major problem is the lawyers argument about psychology. In these cases, this would be judged by a psychiatric professional, which is very definitely a medical science.
I would also say, it's extremely hard to convince a court of an insanity defence.

When dogs go rogue they get put down. This from a dog lover who is against the death penalty. A dog. Who snapped. Period.
Edit: also, I think perpetrators kinda like victim impact statements.

I think this young man should be kept in a mental institution for the protection of the public. Every time I hear this case it makes me think he was on some sort of drug that they didn’t screen.

Wow what? His dad actually said that? Omg what is wrong with people. Is this man void of empathy or what? Mind blown right now.
