The HBO show not only promoted the propaganda version of the accident, but the fictionalized version of Lyudmila's story as well. The way Dyatlov was portrayed was outrageous too.

I remember in 2022, a group of people from either reddit or discord made an effort to visit her after a bout of stalking her. I don’t remember if they were ever successful, god willing, they failed. But this woman truly has never had a break since 1986. Thank you for telling the true story.

The guy is in fact a hero. Dr. Robert Gail asked him if he understood the danger, to which he said that he did. He then asked, then why would you go? To which he replied “it was my job”

Man! I cannot imagine the suffering of that woman having to relive the death of her husband and baby over and over. I hope she can find peace.

bro KNEW he was dying, but still somehow surprised his wife flowers oith from his hospital bed?!?!? my heart 😭❤
It seems like every time she's interviewed for her story, it gets twisted and ignored. I hope she can find peace to live her life

I really really love the Chernobyl mini-series. Not just cause of the topic, but it is objectively amazing story telling, acting and cinematography. It is, however, really disappointing learning all the things the show either got wrong or twists. It's understandable that compromises have to be made to make a show about something so complex - but outright lies about people or things that happen is incredibly ironic considering the show's theme of "lies incur a debt to the truth".

This poor, poor woman, having suffered so much loss just to have her story twisted. Alexievich should be ashamed of herself and so should the producers of the show.

Also a further point about Natasha, the congenital defects she suffered from develop very early in pregnancy, so before the Chernobyl disaster even happened. It was very disappointing to see the HBO's awful depiction of it.

The fact that Alexievich won the Nobel for literature "for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time" on the back of doing such a shoddy hatchet job on the Ignatenkos - compounding the suffering they’d already endured - is just fucking wild

I often hear about the tragic irony that these firefighter's efforts achieved nothing anyways because all their water was instantly vaporized, but it sounds like that's not true and mostly only applied to the core itself. It sounds like they successfully prevented a roof collapse and also succeeded in containing the spread of the fire which I'm sure was a huge objective of theirs anyways.
