  The first time I heard Strange Fruit I was a child in the 60&apos;s and although I thought the song was sad I didnt understand the context , it was only in the 70&apos;s as a teenager &nbsp;watching Lady Sings The Blues that I understood completely and was devastated watching a scene where Holiday was touring in the deep South when the touring bus goes past a lynched black man and Holiday herself is devastated by it. I cried in theater. Talk about music that moves and angers you. Then and there I realized how music can fundamentally change you on a primordial level.

  Honestly Tears in Heaven gets me every time. &nbsp;We lost our Mom when I was 11. Home Sweet Home still reminds me of that time in 1985. 9 years layer I lost my baby brother in a tragic accident. &nbsp;Tears in Heaven felt like it was written for my grief. We are coming up on the anniversary of his death. I was more 2nd mom to him I loved more than anyone in the world. He was 13. Heaven Let Your Light Shine Down by Collective Soul too.

  Wake me up when September ends is a song title my husband referenced as we got married on the last day of September back in 2005. His mom was terminally ill and he wanted her to see him get married. We even tried moving the date up but she refused as it’s what was fueling her to keep going to treatments to get more time. She died less than 3 months later.

  You should do top 50 songs with the saddest backstories next time <br>Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely by BSB should’ve been an honorable mention. Kevin losing his father from cancer, Howie losing his sister from lupus and Brian having open heart surgery.
