  The story behind Tears in Heaven is heart wrenching, Eric Clapton had a son Conor Clapton, born on August 21, 1986. Eric one morning went to pick up his son, who was with his mother at a Hotel called The Galleria, a 57 story skyscraper in Manhattan. He was going to take his son to the Zoo. Unfortunately, a housekeeper was cleaning the Hotel Room and left a window open. The child fell from the 53rd story. Clapton was minutes away and when he got in, he was greeted with commotion only to find out it was his son. In an instant, the baby was gone on Wednesday, March 20, 1991, around 11:00 AM. The 4 year old was just learning to write. A few days prior to the tragedy, Baby Conor had written a letter to his father, which his mother had already sent in the mail. In Lory&apos;s (Conor&apos;s mother) own words, Lory said: ‘The baby had learned to write a few words and he said to me, “Oh mummy, I want to write a letter to daddy, what shall I write?” I told him, “Well, write, I love you”. He wrote that and we posted it like a regular letter. <br>After Conor died, Eric and I arrived in London for the funeral. I was there when Eric received his mail just after the funeral and he opened it up and it was Conor’s letter. That is a moment I cannot forget.’ Eric was a recluse for about a year after. He left to Antigua and didn&apos;t have a lot of contact with the outside world. Tears in Heaven released on January 8, 1992. He stopped singing it Live in 2004 because there was no emotion left in the song for him. He was afraid to also open up old wounds. I really think this was the perfect #1 for this list. I can&apos;t listen to the song without getting a ball in my throat.
