He wasn't just the wife guy. He had entire TV shows built around his wife, books, collabs, and he even toured doing seminars about his relationship. He 1000% benefited from being the wife guy. Now he blames everyone else for making him the wife guy when he built an entire career off of it.

I am so irritated that Ned just glosses over the fact that he was her BOSS. He just keeps referring to her as his producer, and never acknowledges that power dynamic.

He wasn’t the wife guy because he loved his wife so much, but because he didn’t have any other personality.

I did not want to give him the views but I saw clips and Ariel is still the most interesting thing about him. Ned talks as if he is completely removed from the situation.

Let's be clear: 1) They are co-parenting and doing things with they boys together. 2) They are NOT hooking up and traveling together as a couple. 3) BIG DIFFERENCE that Ned doesn't want made clear.

    Just to clarify:

1: The “people following them around” was People mag and TMZ. I truly believe it was a PR stunt on Ned’s part and he didn’t tell Ariel, scaring her even more. Ned has since repeatedly used People for “exclusives” into his private life.

2: Alex, the woman he had an affair with, would even watch their kids when Ned and Ariel went on dates. She always struck me as turned on by the fact that she was secretly fucking the “guy who was so into his wife”.

3: Ariel, correctly, uses the verbiage “betrayal” to talk about Ned’s affair, whereas Ned cares more about his reputation—which is why he calls it “the scandal”.

4: If there was a parasocial relationship, it was with the fans and Ariel. Very few people were fans of Ned, the egotistical jock who gloated that he was smarter than all the other try guys. He quickly learned how popular Ariel was, which is why he began using her and their family for views.

5: He still believes Ariel is overreacting, and that “everyone cheats”. His father cheated on his mother, as well.

I don't think most people got upset with him for cheating because they were in a parasocial relationship with him, it's just that cheating on your wife with your employee is objectively fcked up. I think even people who didn't even know the try guys were disgusted with him for that.

"I can't change the past" has always been an aggravating statement. It's almost condescending in its nature because it's such an obvious statement. Rarely the person you're apologizing to thinks you're capable of time traveling. If you're going to apologize, just say sorry and don't act so defensively.

clinical mental health graduate here. one thing i haven't seen discussed is the more subtle distancing language ned often switches to when he's describing the affair. for example at 24:54 he says "there's a lot of rationalizations that you as the person doing that are sort of telling yourself" as opposed to "i told myself a lot of rationalizations." people often do this when they have a hard time talking about something they've done, as using the indefinite "you" puts them outside of the situation. in the intro, he does use "i" language because it's likely scripted, but in an impromptu conversation he has a hard time placing himself in the position of perpetrator/person who's done harm. it continues to show ned hasn't really reached full acceptance of what he's done yet.

Ned is making money off of this. He's monetizing his own cheating. That's why he made the first episode of his podcast this, on his channel. That's not healing, that is cold and calculated and using his wife as a prop for his own self advancement, only now instead of 'I love my wife' it's 'I betrayed my wife'.

I think part of what people forget is that Ariel knew the other woman who was engaged at the time. Ariel had spoken IN FRONT OF ALEX about her fears and insecurities about being slightly older than Ned and other insecurities she had, and everything like that. Alex, the person Ned cheated with, KNEW what she was doing, and she knew the levels on which this would hurt Ariel, but she did it anyway. While she's not MORE guilty than Ned by any means, it's not like she was just some random woman; Ariel likely would have considered her a friend. That shit is SICK. To be able to do that to someone, especially someone you know, while doing the same thing to your own partner, is fucking TWISTED.
