Ironically Thatcher could be labelled the first green Prime minister, but she destroyed our industrial base which we have never recovered from

This is the position that the UK Oil industry is nearing. First stigmatise for public support then proceed to sever a life line in favour of an alternative economic vision. Albeit hastily so without much consideration for fact and to the detriment of public interest.

I was 9 years old living in Goldthorpe, my Dad was a miner, my Grandad was a miner. I remembered paul and Darren Holmes getting killed on the railway bankings on Barnsley rd across from what used to be the entrance to Highgate pit. 1 lad survived (Jimmy Rawson) as i recall?

Generations of my family have worked down the pit going back to the late 1700s. By the time i left school in 1992 all the local pits had shut, so the family tradition of working down the pit ended when my Dad died

Most accurate summary, especially the truth about the BBC's dishonest reporting of Orgreave events and the strike generally. Another reason to boycott the BBC and their licence fee. Anyone paying it is paying for propaganda.

Strange how the BBC seems to be connected to keeping the truth hidden yet again!

Cornet player here and was about to join the Baritone section I went to Band practice every Monday and Wednesday after school and sat with men filling there heart with harmony and comradery and practiced at home and in the Band room not for themselves but for the whole band and it was beautiful....I cried when this way of life we took for granted ended and the beautiful hard working men women and children faded away and with it a community that once thrived , laughed and cried together and is no more . This was a crime against a Nation and the evidence of the crime is all around us today ....RIP all you beautiful dreamers I miss and loved you. A cornet player.💘💔

Thatcher was the villain. In the coal mining communities he was a hero..

Wilson closed twice as many pits in his tenure as Thatcher did in hers and which labour government opened any of them afterwards? none of them! I was brought up in a Yorkshire mining village and most of the time all I heard from miners in this period was, "I'm sick of going on strike, it's going to ruin us"

A tragedy the country is paying dearly today.
