You could have taken bus 72 from the airport for free. It would have taken you to Zeleni Venac, not far from the city center. There is A1 which costs 400 RSD or about 4 USD or 3.42 EUR. Okay you shared a taxi with a few people and that's not a bad option. Public transportation in Belgrade is free (buses, trams, trolleybuses and BG Voz city railway).
