I LOVE the point about decluttering later. Sometimes people can get overwhelmed from just thinking about decluttering but if we start with steps 1-4, at least they can see progress. Great suggestion. Thank you!

These are great tips! My last move a few years ago was not well planned and even worsely executed. It had been 10 years since I moved and I greatly underestimated how much stuff I had accumulated and how much time I needed and how much I needed to get rid of. I was awake for 52 hours moving and it seemed to never end. I filled my 17 ft moving truck (that was the biggest I was comfortable driving) 5 times! I still have half of my belongings in storage. I really need to purge! I am a single mom so I only had my kids to help me and they were stressing me out even more. It was seriously a traumatic experience! It was HORRIBLE! I'm getting ready to move in a couple weeks now but I've been preparing. A lot of these tips are lessons I learned from my previous experience. Im impressed that you had time to make a video while you were moving. I have these videos playing when I don't feel motivated to do something. They really help me get moving when I'm feeling overwhelmed about where to start that day.

So clear, so good. Im moving soon and it was a relief to hear from an expert that its okay to declutter later. I had naturally started taking things off the wall because , mentally, it felt like I was doing something but really felt like I should be decluttering first...your reasoning for it makes so much .ore sense. Thank you!

I have always moved my stuff into a storage for a few months before I needed to move out of somewhere, as a single mom it was the best option. I've been using storages for decades, plus many storage facilities let you use a truck upon move in. Happy moving everyone. 😁

Also a great tip: (ive moved a lot)
1) Small boxes: easier to carry, especially when heavy.
2) Use clothes, linens, towels, blankets etc to wrap glass, pictures, mirrors and anything breakable. "Kill 2 birds with one stone"... It's funny but socks and underwear are great for kitchen items like glasses and plates. I use large comforters to wrap large mirrors.

Funny enough... I called on a storage unit yesterday. I'm a single mom- low income and I'm moving to another rental in about 2 months. We've lived in this place for 10 years (since my son was 6 months old) so we are settled yet we've outgrown this place. Anyway, my idea is I'll get a 5x5 ($45 a month) to get all the holiday stuff, memorabilia, decor, etc... Basically things we do not need right now, out of the way. Then I can go through and either pack or get rid of. The money will ve worth having more room to really focus.

I know this is old but could be helpful for you or anyone reading this comment but for baby/childrens clothing thats not in use get those vacuum storage bags they save tons of space.

The post it notes look neat, but I find they are easy to loose and get detached from things. I like to slap some packing tape on top of the post its

Main thing I have to move that I’m worried about and I’m moving last is a Grandfather clock. I want to move it right and not hurt it any. My uncle made it!
