I think the analogue of free agency in sports is perfect: until you sign on to a team, you don't have any affinity, responsibility, or privileges of a team. But once you sign on, there is a contract that comes with rights and responsibilities.

Law, opposition, and choice = agency. Activated and expanded with knowledge.
Remove any one of these you destroy agency.
No law= do what you want with no consequences
No opposition= laws but no resistance or pain
No choice= objects instead of agents. Acted upon.
Knowledge gives you more choices

Hayden. Consider this statement of Joseph Smith. ‘A man is saved no faster than he gets knowledge, for if he does not get knowledge, he will be brought into captivity by some evil power in the other world...”.
The first part is in D&C in 130 and 131. The last part is a fuller text from his discourse in Nauvoo on 10 April 1842

It's the doctrine of Korihor "and whatsoever a man did was no crime."

Remember to be careful when holding children accountable. They are just learning and growing in understanding. Don't be harsh, show mercy (love) as well. Also, when a child is being naughty and acting out of pride or anger, the punishment needs to be swift. Don't wait for the father to come home and punish them, children won't connect the punishment with the crime, they will connect it with the father being "mean". Mom needs to hold the little one accountable at the time the trespass occurs. They need to feel that you are correcting them because you love them and don't want them to hurt themselves or others. Also, don't feel like you have to catch every little infraction...you'll be busy disciplining every second. Just have patience and keep showing them the right way to live by your actions and keep them busy learning through play and having fun. Help them feel the spirit through songs, stories and scriptures. It is a big job and takes a lot of work but make sure you have lots of loving moments with your children AND make sure they see their parents loving and having fun together and showing a good example also. Be in charge of their education and don't turn them over to godless teachers.

I remember an episode on Ward Radio where Jonah Barnes said he found in one of the apocryphal books that Satan was mad that he wasn’t chosen to be Adam. That was a big source of his anger at God and a big reason for his rebellion.

My father hated the concept of “free agency”. He would say “ You have the ability to choose but you don’t have the right to choose evil. You were bought with a price.”

My best friend's mom growing up taught by "Natural consequences" if he didn't bring his dirty clothes to the laundry room, she didn't wash them. It made an impact on me to this day. When I use natural consequences with my kids, it is far more effective than when I react in anger to their actions or when I let them slide and don't hold them accountable.

There is an Ensign article from March 2015, “Satan’s Rebellion,” that covers some of these same ideas. I have wondered ever since reading it why these concepts are not more widely taught.

Satan wanted to remove consequence, but without consequence there is no accountability. Without accountability there is no growth. Redemption without growth subverts Gods plan to have His children grow and become like Him i.e. to receive exaltation.

Excellent and enlightening presentation, Gentlemen. I am definitely going to have to watch this one several more times to get it to stick in my head and replace the misunderstandings that we grew up with.
