Robert Mitchum was an extremely talented actor. His voice was recognized in every film without seeing him.

Burt Reynolds told a story of being at a dinner with Mitchum and several other people and some drunk comes up to them and starts the old "You think you're so tough, Mitchum! Reynolds says Mitchum grabbed the guy, slammed the guy's head into the corner of the table and knocked him out then turned to Reynolds and said with an impish grin, "The guy slipped!". Reynolds said that the aura of being a real man wasn't something Mitchum faked on screen.

Contrary to the narrative , Mitchum DID work with Otto Preminger again after the ' ANGEL FACE ' slap . Two years later they teamed up and shot ' RIVER OF NO RETURN ' . Otto was on slightly better behavior .

It sounds as if Robert Mitchum stood by his own principles and his own code. There is nothing wrong with that. He did things his own way, I can relate to this I have not always been the most popular person in the world. I say what I think to peoples faces, not making mischief behind their back he sounds quite a lot like me. The honest way is the best way. Did I mention he was also a great actor.
