I really wish the game delved deeper into this plotline, it's one of the most interesting in the game.

If you want to leave with Madenach and make sure everyone survives;

Leave with Madenach and step outside into Markarth with him. Immediately go back into the ruin and wait an hour. Everyone survives and you’ll find them all non hostile at Drudach Redoubt. It’ll be the only Foresworn base in the game that’s non hostile.

I always save Margret in my playthroughs. You can also save Betrid by reading whats in Thonar's inventory.

So, fun fact, everyone in the Treasury can live if you can pickpocket Thonar's journal from him, same at Nepos' House, if you can pickpocket the journal from Nepos. And Margret can live if you are quick enough and kill Weylin

This is one of my favorite and least favorite topics in the game cuz its such a cool concept but the game doesn't get into it nearly deep enough

Fun fact there is a way to prevent the confrontation in the treasure house. If you steal Thonar's journal it advances the quest without any of the NPCs turning hostile and killing Thonar's wife.

this was a missed opportunity to unite the forsworn and siege markarth

I always wished for a quest or option, or a high quality mod that would let the Forsworn have control over Markarth again

I love how dedicated Bard has been diving real deep into Skyrim and still staying entertaining. I can't wait to see what he does when ES6 finally comes out

I thought once you free their king most, if kt all Forsworns will be friendly, after the quest. So I googled this situation, & it turns our he was the “king” of a handfull of forsworns in-game, as opposed to how the lore makes it out to be as if he was someone with great influence

I know there are some mods that let you get more friendly with the Forsworn than you can in the base, but I don't think any exist where you can realistically help them take over the Reach, which sucks. As a kind of massive sub-quest, it has a lot of potential. Picture them just ending up being the 'Reachmen' instead of 'Forsworn' at the end, and their soldiers better equipped, since they actually have their own kingdom back and aren't some fringe rebellion with no resources to make and distribute proper weapons and armor. It could even affect the civil war plotline, since an entire hold is off the board, since it'd be an independent, if tiny, kingdom. Make it so you can still side with Imperials if you can convince through lore friendly RP use of Speech, both they and Madanach agreeing to him being a largely independent, but still technically vassal of the Empire, or make a super hard one to get Ulfric to accept a similar deal with them (though I'd make that one be nearly, but not totally, impossible), or side with neither as a subject of the Reach, and 'resolve' the Civil War by essentially saying it's not your problem (since the Forsworn random dialogue does say they really don't care about the rest of Skyrim, which makes sense since to them, the Reach isn't part of it anyway).
