Paradoxically, the reason why the Mulder/Scully relationship works is because it was never the plan or intention for them to be a couple. So instead they built this really great professional relationship, then they built this really profound friendship, and only after that, once it had become obvious to absolutely everyone that these characters couldn't possibly ever be with anyone else, did they finally become romantic.
If that had been the plan all along, I think it would have been just annoying, but instead the hints and little flirtatious moments became a huge part of what made the show work.

I really question the professional judgement of the studio execs who a) didn’t want Gillian as Scully and b) thought Mulder and Scully had no chemistry… were these guys blind?

They did raise the standard, but chemistry like that isn't an act. They had it, period. Even after years have passed when you see them together that chemistry still smulders. Very rare and we love seeing it.

"Scully is Mulder's human credential." David Duchovny was always so spot on about the Mulder/Scully relationship.

Mulder and Scully fell in love the instant they laid eyes on one another.

Just forget that episode. It's just to cause controversy. Scully's baby is Mulder's marinated in super soldier powers.😊
