The one thing I love about Karl Taylor is his brutal honesty......

You’ve earned that sweet studio and gear by proving yourself over and over. Not only that you’re extremely generous with your time and knowledge. How anyone can give you grief at all is beyond me 😂

I was taught in college that a photographer does not take images, they make them. Every time I say this online people say I am being pretentious :/ While this is just a serious hobby for me, but one of the reasons I enjoy it so much is there is always so much to learn. Not only do you need to learn a thing, but truly understand it; Once you do you can see the results in your work, it is super rewarding.

Karl Taylor is to the photography community what Carl Sagan was to the astrophysics community.

Thank you for the pep-talk, Karl. Even as a hobby photographer, many of your points hit home with me.
This Saturday, I am heading to Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia. I am going to get about 10-15 hours of surfing photography in. I am aiming for about 50 keepers.
I will have many of your points in my mind as I have fun on the beach.
Thank you, Peter.🎉🎉🎉

So much good information here. The use of Google Street view to scout views with potential for shoots is pure genius. Last summer I spent 3 months of my spare time shooting images with my DSLR. Every day that it was not raining I was out for a few hours before work taking shots. This endless repetition and practice in all lighting conditions was really useful. Over time I started notice things that had not been obvious when I only took my camera out on special occasions. I started really thinking about what I was shooting, looking for what I think of as interesting camera angles. and not standing in the same spot all the time but moving about and actively exploring different compositions to see what worked and what didn't. I often end up contorting myself into strange stances just to get the shot that appeals to me at the time. There is always more to learn which is what draws me back time and again.
