I'm an old guy...I shot professionally in the 1970's & about half of the 1980's, which was obviously during the film days. When digital cameras came to market, we all thought we were going to be put out of business. It didn't put us out of business, but it definitely made business much more difficult because of all of the people buying digital cameras, promoting themselves as professionals, and underpricing their work. Personally, I think digital was one of the best photographic improvements we've experienced in the past 100 years, even if it did result in a wild period of "Photoshopped" images that looked fake. As the technology matured, photographers learned how to work with it in a more natural manner and are now producing amazing images that were unthinkable in the film days. Good photography will not be replaced by AI, so don't fear AI.

Authenticity. Build your work on authenticity — that cannot be automated. Your individuality in every photograph or painting —that’s where humanity lives. All the best to us photographers, painters, filmmakers, musicians, writers, and creators of every kind.

What drives me nuts is companies like Adobe adding all the AI crap into their software and making it mandatory. Every time they add more it runs slower. Then eventually they will just raise the price again to something ridiculously high and say "well you are getting all these cool AI tools"<br>They should make the AI tools a separate plug-in and charge separately for it. Not everyone needs or wants to pay more for software they don't need that bogs down their system.

AI cannot do events, weddings christenings, parties, documentary, sports, factual, portraits, medical,, astro, forensic, historical, astronomical, hobby, art, repo, - it may have taken a stab at fashion and product, but that is really about it. When faced with change adapt.

Thanks Karl, really great insights. I feel social media is really the one thing that threatens our work as photographers. Today, food brands use around 80% of their marketing budget on social media and 20% on professional photography/videography. Keeping up with all the social media demands including paid ads is a real strain for businesses at the moment, so I would really like to see a drop in socials like you mentioned. We can all benefit from this!

When photography was invented, artists did not stop painting, they evolved to do things differently. Realistic painting actually benefitted from photography. So we need to see where AI can add to what we as photographers do, so we need to know where its shortfalls are and ours are not.

I work full time in a product photography studio and we have integrated some of the Photoshop AI tools into our workflow. Its been great so far. The AI deals with the repetitive and boring parts of the work allowing us more time to focus on the more creative aspects.

I agree Karl.<br>Real is the way forward.<br>But it will take skill and commitment.<br>A lot of both.

G'day Karl, long-time follower here. While I agree there will always be a place for great photography, I believe AI is poised to become the primary source for commercial imagery.<br><br>For big advertisers chasing ROI, and with audiences on smart devices, AI is a no-brainer. The quality is already staggering, and it's only in its infancy. Family, Wedding and press photographers will remain safe, in my opinion) not so sure about the movie business?<br><br>My radical advice for the camera industry & supply chain? Follow the McDonald's model: invest in commercial real estate, printing, and exhibition venues & build loyal Brand community. The future is in curating the tactile, human experience around the art, including Books , Zines, in addition to making analog photography a valuable niche once again! <br>😙✌️

Happily, for many in the photo industry, commercial or private, the act of photography is fun. <br>I saw one person suggest was to use a.i. images for concept ideas. I suggest that we have a faster, stronger creative engine we are born with, so just use that. It's cheaper and more fun.<br>I vote with my feet. When I see anything a.i. I actively ignore, block, and shun. For me, the fun of creativity is to see it in action, and by live brains.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PecqIAMefQ0&t=597">9:57</a>, absolutely, as a matter of fact its a status symbol to have your portrait painted, you can say: it was painted by this renowed artist who only visits during the spring, etc, the social dialectical material process.

Very interesting and balanced view. I agree with your thoughts. I’m a landscape photographer who sells stock, it’s not my main job, but it subsides my income. I’ve been messing around with Ai for the last few months and found it to be quite limiting. You can’t get exactly what you want. If somebody needs a tourism image of Salcombe, it can’t do that and you start to find there’s a lot it can’t do. It’ll be a useful tool, like PS is.
