  My mother grew up in 1949s Ireland and had exquisite table manners. She instilled the importance in me and I genuinely am shocked at some people's table manners😮

  One other comment about the dinner bun: one breaks off a bite-sized morsel at a time and spreads butter on it , if offered. One never breaks the bun in half and slathers butter on an entire half and then chomps down leaving teeth marks for all to admire.

  My understanding is that the rounder spoon was used for consomme (it’s actually called a bullion spoon), while the more oval is a regular soup spoon.

  I've read an etiquette book when I was a kid, and probably the only thing I've remembered is to tilt the soup bowl away from yourself, not toward. But nobody else seems to have heard that rule, so I draw some curious glances when eating outside. But it makes sence to me, so I keep doing it lol. The rule you've told about the spoon movement is new and in my country nobody does it, but I want to try it too.

  I&apos;ve been trying fruitlessly to explain to my coworkers, why properly setting the table even, or rather especially, in a retirement home is important. Our clientle were people used to eat out almost every week, particularly at business setting. They still can&apos;t wrap their head about placing the fork on the left, the knife and soup spoon on the right. And yes, there only a fork a knife, a soup and coffee spoon set.<br>Also, mya I just add, that the napkin&apos;s embroidery and folding is exquisite.

  I’m left-handed, which makes it very convenient to shovel food in my mouth without having to switch hands. 😂

  Grew up in the northwest of England and the dessert cutlery was always at the top. At home and at school.

  My Texan father had a 1st generation British grandfather who ate in the British style. Daddy said that they were always amazed at how many peas he could stack on the back of his fork.
