Portugal's history is fascinating, especially when such a small country founded such a vast trading empire. Fearless soldiers, bold navigators, and all that wealth flooding back to Lisbon. But after the great Earthquake, there is the focused energy of the Marquis de Pombal: “Bury the dead and feed the living" and the city shook off the great blow.

I’m an American who moved to Portugal four years ago and I’ve been living in Lisbon for the last three years. I’ve come to appreciate the city and the history of the entire country, but this presentation really captured so much in such a dramatic way of the seminal events of the history of Portugal and in a moving way as well. Thank you so much for this very artistic video.

The reconstruction of the 1755 earthquake was both haunting and beautiful. It's heartbreaking to see what was lost, but amazing to see how the city was reborn. Such high-quality work! 🌊💔🌅

Just a bit info on the side for the interested: the king and queen of Portugal were the godparents of Marie Antoinette who was born the day after the earthquake . Some people saw that as a bad omen …..
