The most ADHD thing is getting halfway through a video about ADHD, hearing something that makes you think about an experience you had with someone else in a weekly gaming session, then thinking about the game and how you might get back into that game and reconnect with that group...then realizing you missed at least two minutes of the video...

ADHD is waking up every morning and literally thinking to yourself “okay today is the day I’ll actually brush my teeth on time and get ready for the day like a normal adult” and then you just don’t

i came up with an adhd analogy while watching this. Someone without ADHD is carrying one 80lb box. Someone with ADHD is carrying eighty 1lb boxes.

edit: changed analogy to metaphor, after someone pointed out my error
double edit: changed metaphor to analogy, after someone pointed out the prior persons error lol

I always tell people that I have the worlds fastest processor but only 2MB of RAM. So I can think of things really, really fast but if it's too much then...stack overflow and shut down.

The two best metaphors I ever heard for ADHD and completing a task are:
1. You are standing on the edge of a ravine, and you need to cross a wooden plank bridge to get across (To complete a task). If you have ADHD several of the planks are broken and missing causing you to have much more difficulty crossing that bridge as opposed to a neurotypical person with a sturdy, well maintained bridge. Other people can't see that your bridge is missing planks and assume that you are just stupid, lazy, or being willfully difficult.
2. Everyone in the world is required to carry 100 marbles at all times. Neurotypical people are given a bag to carry the marbles in. However, if you have ADHD, you still have to carry all of the marbles, but you are not given a bag. There is no way to know who has a bag and who doesn't, and the world still expects you to carry all of the marbles without ever dropping one and still complete your everyday tasks. The people with the bags would be very confused as to why the people without bags are always dropping marbles.

I don't even do things I WANT to do. That is differrent from non-ADHD. It's not because I don't want to. Also, we have problems processing even INTERESTING lectures. Unless the person has an entertaining rhythm like you do.

I'm 66 years old. Only now am I figuring out what's been going on this whole time. I am ADHD and autistic! Sure explains a lot... I almost don't care if other people don't understand because I'm so happy that I finally understand myself. But it's still nice to know how to explain it if I need to. Thank you.

This is super valuable. I am legit traumatized by all the times I was punished for not doing homework, chores, bad grades, and BREAKING RULES I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WERE RULES.

People without ADHD make a connection between two pieces of data.
People with ADHD connect everything to everything and then figure out what works, what doesn't work, and whats funny. They then keep everything connected in the off chance it might help later.
