This is why I always defend tails when fans rip on him. Tails became a soldier, went to space war, and went through hell to save the universe. All at the ripe age of eight, maybe nine at most. His friends didn’t know what to do, and Eggman (who is the only experienced adult in this group) had to be the voice of reason. This kid has PTSD and war trauma. Leave him alone!

Yeah, the Japanese version of the episode is infamous.

I believe the dub version did more service to Shadow's character than the original. He can be cruel when he wants to, but he's not necessarily completely savage about it. Maria still guides him, even when he can't remember her.

Another thing that makes this even worse for Tails is how close he is to Sonic. His best friend, practically brother,is the bullet that he used to kill Cosmo. I can gurrantee that in Tails' head when he pulled the trigger,he was thinking that somehow, someway,Sonic will come back with Cosmo, somehow save her. So when Sonic came back with just that one seed,Tails just breaks. As touched upon in the video,Tails believes that Sonic will always find a way, pull through at the end. So when he didn't,that shattered his worldview. Don't even get me started on Cosmo's apparition that he saw at that moment.

Now put it all together,he pulled the trigger that killed the girl he loves, his best friend is the ammunition, the girl he loves is begging for him to kill her and the guilt of the aftermath. So no wonder Tails got so traumatized from the event.

After that, during the final episode, you can tell that the brotherly duo are now broken. Both Sonic and Tails have changed because of this one moment. And in Sonic X,it was never the same for the both of them.

You know, If Sega ever brought Casmo back from the dead and if
Tails's first action is to kiss her, i wouldn't blame him. Nobody would.

It makes perfect sense that Tails is merely pretending to still be himself, because if we think of it like this, how would an 8 year old (never realized just HOW young he was during Sonic X) feel after doing some of the most heart-wrenching, painfully dark decisions that typically a soldier would have to carry out when the time comes, he WASN'T ready for that kind of life, but he was forced to do it anyways due to what happened... I dunno if we'll ever see a point where that mask finally snaps off be it in the games or the comics, but boy when it does, that's gonna hurt for everyone involved.

Poor, Tails. When he saw Cosmo sacrificed herself to save the world and the galaxy, he was crying hysterically and I feel bad for him. The Japanese Dub definitely made things even sadder especially when he admits that he loves her.😥💔

There is an uncensored Japanese cut of this show, and Episodes 77-78 in it is absolutely insane. Sonic basically pushes Tails into murdering his own girlfriend because "oh it was her destiny," and then doesn't even try to help him at the end, instead just leaving him on the lido deck to fight his trauma alone.

Man, they absolutely needed to build on that. Somehow.

Shadow wasn't being Heartless, this is what I believe truly happened 😅. Shadow saw Tails trying to protect Cosmo as much as he could but he knew, that if he didn't kill Cosmo, Tails would be forced to do it. So he had to act coldly so the happy fox wouldn't have to feel that burden
