I'm building a dragonborn monk of the elements for one reason alone: draconic flight and stride of the elements both grant 10 min of flight with a speed equal to your walking speed. @ lvl 5, draconic flight will be 10 mins of speed 60ft/turn. (with the speedy feat and the longstrider spell). By the time you get to level 11, your speed is now 70ft/ turn with the same feat and magic initiate spell combo. For ten minutes free (draconic flight) and ten minutes per focus point. (Along with the other benefits you get for elemental attunement, like extended reach and elemental unarmed strikes damage.) With uncanny metabolism, you could spend 3 and 2/3 hours in the air. That's like 29 miles of flight, give or take. (Longstrider wears off after the first hour, provided you chose that for your magic initiate spell.)

I have a white Dragonborn zealot barb of Tiamat that was saved after his tribe was destroyed and he was brought back from death. Another one is a Silver Dragonborn Warlock of the many (flavored as Tiamats 5 draconic heads)

Yes!! I've been using Dragonborn since 3.5 and even now I use a Blue Dragonborn as part of my favourite build, 5th lvl Ranger/Tempest Cleric. Really pops off at lvl 13 total.

I took meta magic adept to change Firestorm into lightning, Add Channel Divinity for max damage for Unlimited Power!! lol.. really want the opportunity to use it on an area I've casted Hallow for lightning vulnerability but it's a rare opportunity you have 24 hours to cast a spell before battle, it's 140 lightning damage plus ignoring resistance with the Lightning adept feat, makes you an army killer with one 7th lvl spell.

Great stuff as always Wayne! Really helpful. Am actually playing a Dragonborn at the moment in a rare outing as a player. Black ancestry which leads to him being viewed with suspicion and fear by most, whereas he actually just wants to fit in and prove himself worthy - although maybe his ancestral nature always lurks just under the surface? 😁 As you rightly say, 2024 dragon design seems to have Black Dragons tied into almost an undead theme, so that could be interesting! The relationship with dragons is also a really great question to think about and will no doubt lead to some fun moments as and when this foe is encountered!

Excellent stuff as always. I think it would worth considering what means to be reptilian as well. Do reptiles feel the same emotions as mammals? Do they have the same need for contact as warm bloodied animals? Do they consider mammals as inferior creatures? Do they find milk disgusting? Do they prefer live food? Do they have more patience? Do their mouths allow them to form words the same way? Do they have a sibilant hiss?

Thanks for this! ngl, I only started getting into DnD thanks to Baldur's Gate 3, but I now regret not getting into it earlier. It's been great fun! And, luckily enough, one of my coworkers turned out to be a very experienced and excellent DM who invited me to join a new campaign last year, where I created a Dragonborn sorcerer with the Draconic Ancestry subclass... a double-dragon, if you will. I haven't played long enough to know if that's cliche or not.

Tbh I mainly picked that combination because I thought that the additional Draconic Ancestry skin pattern options in the BG3 character creator looked really cool on the Dragonborn. In both BG3 and in my current 5e campaign, I played as a Red Dragonborn with Gold Dragon ancestry. I only knew about as much as 10 minutes of googling told me about either of those dragon types, but I figured he'd be a chaotic fire-focused sorcerer that views fire as a hammer for every nail (Red influence) while also being a high-charisma gift-of-the-gab mediator that, should fire be a bad option, he could attempt to talk his way out of a heated situation instead (Gold influence).

I made him an orphan (which I know is definitely cliche) mainly because I didn't know enough about the universe to construct a proper backstory and I was eager to just hop in to a campaign with my new group, so the rest I'm kind of figuring out along the way thanks to videos like this!
