What's your favorite Resident Evil game?

Here's hoping they give Rebecca more depth to her character in the RE0 remake

It gets a lot of grief now but back in 2002 I for one anyway thought it was a blessing to just get more HD Resident Evil. I’ve never really understood the hate for this game. The backtracking can get a bit frustrating but there always has been backtracking in RE games. Could be nostalgia talking but I’d rank this above 6, 7, and 8, objectively speaking.

This was actually the first Resident Evil I properly completed along with the OG version of 2.

It has one of my favourite character "development" moments with how Rebecca gradually trusts Billy more, lies to Enrico about his whereabouts and owns her choice as a consequence she has to deal with, based on faith that Billy is in fact a good man. Then you get an awesome flash back sequence with him!

Some mechanics ruined older games for me because of the ability to drop items at will and combine herbs with no item spaces left. And it gives you a few choices on how you engage enemies. Use both characters and their fire power, have only one run through and explore with the bulk of ammo while the other waits at the safe point?

I loved the locations so much that the back tracking in this game never bothered me. Train sequence was a good intro and then going into the training facility with all the ambience and gothic notes (another torture chamber in the basement which reminded me of CV!) and it was nice having the local lab not being the final area, but a penultimate location. Water treatment plant felt like a mild labyrinth that was really fun to explore while keeping me on edge with the possibility of a lurker enemy jumping out of the water to ambush me.

If Resident Evil 0 got remade, then I think that should be a good segway to another RE1 remake. Another YouTuber once brought up, that if you do the prequel first, then the remake could integrate the prequel's backstory & interpretation, into expanding on the remake. And I think that could allow Rebecca, to have character development in a possible 2nd attempt, at remaking RE1. Since her portrayal in 0, and her portrayal in the already existing RE1 remake, is so tonally different.

I never understood the hate for the item system tbh....i loved having critical agency over everything i found and could put everything i wanted wherever i wanted. The thing that pissed me off what the ol "hookshot" situation...by the time you needed it again, most people left it at the wreck and had to run allllllll the way back for it which was admittedly annoying but don't really think it's the sole reason "we need the item box or nothing!"

I recently completed Zero for the 3rd time. Zero is criminally underrated, and the final section in the Treatment Plant connects everything from the Spencer Mansion to NEST. It does an incredible amount of work tying the early Umbrella story together.

I think the item box issue is actually about level design. If levels are that sort of interconnected rooms with a central hub, where you are often revisiting rooms, it is no big issue to leave items on the floor, and the game is mostly like that anyway. The problem is when you have to move on to other areas. You end up taking multiple trips to bring all the items you have hoarded in the central hall to the new area. I know because I did it. I think this problem can be solved by locking the door after the player moves into the new area, so you can't bring most items with you. Each area would have to be designed taking that into account. It is effectively turning the game into a discrete level game, like Outbreak. Now that I think of it, Outbreak is exactly what I just described. The grappling hook would not be a problem then, as it would only be required in the level you obtain it, and not the other levels.

I think Rebecca as a character is underrated. I feel Leon gets plenty points for being on his first day on being in the force surviving this nightmare, but Rebecca was only 18 and had a longer night than the og team. Capcom gotta give her some love.

Re0 was my first resident evil that I played on my own as a kid and where the love for this series truly began. It help solidify my love for my gamecube as well. Gave my catalog of games an edge and just made the console feel so well rounded. Anyways, I'm rambling now lol.

Re0 is great. Those graphics were something and still holds up. I remember how cool I felt as showing my uncle this crazy intro 😂

Seeing how you used the entry space as a giant item box, I felt I never did that. I kinda peppered the items across the game and it just worked for me? Idk, I felt it kinda felt more realistic too?

And one more thing. That beretta had a light in the intro cutscene. I wish they kept the light on it 😂 it looked cool

Complaining about limited inventory when you have 12 spaces avaliable and can place items on any room without ever loosing them, with constant ammo and healing items being handed to the player, with like 3 different short cuts to back track to main areas is just nitpicking.

I played this game back when it launched,i was like 13 yo and it was the first Re game i actually got to play (years earlier i had seen a cousing play some parts of RE1 and my brother RE3,which ended up being my favorite after i got to play it a while after Zero),i finished it and unlocked everything without ever crying for an item box,in fact,i was so unfamiliar with the exact stablished mechanics of the franchize that i never expected it so i never had that dependency built on me,i really loved being able to use healing items on the spot when i had full inventory (unlike all the other RE games before it) or being able to just drop an item wherever i felt like to pick something more useful and pick it up later when i wanted it or needed it (unlike literally every other RE game in existance),having two characters blasting the hell out of zombies was cool and it was engaging to come up with ways to aproach encounters and item management with out all the sweaty try hard "meta" people aproach this game, engaging with the provided mechanics and advantages the game has (which are quite honestly a lot) made the game fun to me,also, the music, the backgrounds and the areas you get to visit are simply gorgeous, this game looked and sounded awesome back then and it still holds up artisticly speaking compared to a lot of modern games.

The game isnt perfect of course and it has its corresponding share of BS (leech marcus and the hookshot),but it honestly dosnt deserve the constant hate it gets,it is in fact, overly hated and underrated.
