Being out of breath while standing still should absolutely be a wake up call

It's important to love your body, but you also need to take care of it as well.

The fact some of these activists have oxygen tubes and say nothing is wrong is so scary.

Imagine being so obsessed with food, that someone else taking a smaller portion triggers you

Going to the doctor as an obese person and telling them not to mention your weight is like going to an AA meeting and telling them not to mention your drinking...

its one thing to be chubby or slightly overweight, but when it starts to control your life and your health it becomes a problem

I have 21 years of service in the airline industry. One day, a few years ago, a very polite gentlemen came to me in the back galley during boarding.
He was very calm but I could tell he was stressed and hesitant about needing to tell me his concerns. He was very apologetic while informing me that the lady in the middle seat in his row was incredibly large and her flesh was not only spilling over into his seat but also, his arm, waist and hip. Additionally, her mass was essentially forcing half of his body to be pushed into the aisle.
He insisted he didn’t want to cause problems or embarrass the lady but asked if there was another seat he could move to.
Unfortunately, we were totally full and there wasn’t another seat I could offer him. I was abled to make my way halfway forward on the aircraft and could see her size from a good 10 rows away. She very obviously needed to purchase the seat next to her or possibly buy a 1st class seat, which is larger and heavily divided from the neighboring seat.
So, I had the man wait in the galley while I called our Captain to let them know what was going on and asked for a supervising ground agent to attend to this matter.
Boarding had finished and we were still waiting for a customer service rep to show up to resolve the issue. When she finally arrived, she was frustrated with us, the flight crew, for not just closing the aircraft door on time and force the man to sit sideways for the duration of a 4 hour flight.
Impatiently, she demanded out loud “If he is refusing to take his seat, you need to pull him off the aircraft, Now!.” When I objected to that response because the man wasn’t out of policy, it was actually the faults of the lady (with whom the ticket counter employees and the gate agents who failed to follow protocol by insisting she purchase 2 seats) were.I wasn’t going to force the gentleman to comply with such an unfair order. Instead, I requested the lady be removed so she could properly accommodate her extremely large body appropriately and not at the expense of another passenger who paid for the singular seat that he could fit into.
Her decision was final and none of my other crew members wanted to get involved even though this was completely despicable.
I was “out-voted.”
I went to the aft of the aircraft where the man was patiently and quietly waiting.
I told him verbatim exactly what was said and apologized to him profusely because we both knew how terrible he was being treated.
He reluctantly took his seat and had the most uncomfortable flight of his life, I’m sure. I offered him everything I could for free and constantly offered my apologies numerous times. I encouraged him to report this type of injustice.
Of course, the lady who was at the root cause of this debacle made little to no effort to try and tuck herself as tightly as possible. In fact, when the man came to the back to use the lavatory she had made a comment along the lines of “If your really not comfortable sitting next to a larger person, you should probably pay for 1st class or the seat next to you.”
Followed by “Do you think you would mind taking this middle seat? I need to stretch my legs into the aisle.”
He politely declined switching but got up so she could get up and stretch her legs. And by stretching her legs she meant walking back to the galley and telling us she deserves extra snacks and free cocktails for the “stress” she had to feel knowing the man next to her couldn’t fully fit in his seat due to her size. I followed suit and also politely declined her request.
“Im happy to serve you whatever you would like but unfortunately, I can’t comp items that are only available for purchase. You will need to pay.”
She huffed and mumbled something about what a terrible flight att I was but returned to her seat and promptly fell asleep, snoring loudly, for the remainder of the flight.
These types of things are only going to escalate as time goes on. Someone needs to give these entitled train wrecks exactly what they won’t say to themselves, which is the word “No.”
