Shows you how high Messi and Ronaldo raised the bar for 15+ years straight. Every year you knew it was only between them two. Now its like no one even stands out anymore.

It’s not a award anymore, it’s a popularity contest and when your favourite doesn’t win, it’s a “fix” and you all cry about it.

It is being hosted at London, Harry Kane is probably getting it.

Honestly you should win it when you help your team winning something. Your individual brilliance must contribute to your team winning something not more goes or assist without winning something

For me, messi is still better. No player can drag the argentina team to finals if you replace messi. If messi is replaced with kane, Yamal, mbappe etc., they cannot reach the final.

If any player did what messi did at the world cup at 39 leading an average team to the final. He would be praised as a miraculous and nobody would even question giving him the ballon dor but its cause its Messi we take it foe granted. Messi deserves it, what he did last world cup is a miracle

And to show exactly what I mean, here’s an example of how I think the awards should work:
🧤 Goalkeeper Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
🛡️ Defender Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
🎯 Midfielder Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
⚽ Attacker Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
🎯 Assist Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
🎯 Set-Piece Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
⚽ Goal Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
🔥 Goal Contribution Award — 1st, 2nd, 3rd
⭐ Overall Football Excellence — 1 winner
For example, last season:
🧤 GK — Unai Simón
🛡️ DEF — Nuno Mendes
🎯 MID — Bruno Fernandes
⚽ ATT — Harry Kane
🎯 Assists — Bruno Fernandes
🎯 Set Pieces — Declan Rice
⚽ Goals — Harry Kane
🔥 Goal Contributions — Harry Kane
⭐ Overall Football Excellence — Michael Olise

Then separately, you have career recognition:
🥇 Golden GOAT
🥈 Silver GOAT
🥉 Bronze GOAT
🏆 Legend
These aren't based on one season or just goals and trophies. They consider peak, longevity, consistency, core position, big-game performances, adaptability, team contribution, achievements, difficulty and overall career excellence.
So Messi and Ronaldo don't need to be forced into a “who is better?” battle. They can both be recognised as GOAT-level careers.
