  I read somewhere that nettle fabric was considered to be very high end and soft garments before the advent of cotton. That fits it beeing the softest you have encountered.

  Great series. I&apos;m here for the content, but i must say I&apos;m impressed with your presentation. &nbsp;Small things like when you&apos;re showing the cordage with the text in the top right corner and the way everything is in focus or not. &nbsp;Good shot composition and editing.

  Nettle cordage was made by First Nations here on the British Columbia Coast - used most commonly in fishing nets

  You can put them in water for 2 weeeks, that way the organic matters rot away, but the fibers keep fresh

  To preserve the longest possible fibers, it is worth shifting the focus of the effort from post-processing to pre-processing: the very initial stages, such as stripping the leaves from the fresh stem, splitting it, and removing the bark. The weakest point is the “knuckles” of the nettle, where the leaf stalks grow from the stem. Minimize drying and mechanical processing; focus instead on prolonged soaking, rinsing, and gentle mechanical treatment.<br><br>It is very important, at the final stage, when the fibers are still damp and elastic, to moisten them with vegetable oil.

  This strongly reminds me of that Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, The Wild Swans, about the princess who&apos;s forced to make coats out of stinging nettles to save her siblings from a curse!! The process is so fascinating and you have explained it very well.

  You should look into methods used to make flax into linen. There seems to be a lot of parrallels between the two and i think the flax processing would translate well to this.
