  I am a 4500 hour instrument &nbsp;rated private pilot and knew the second david very well for years. Another friend, also a high &nbsp;hour private pilot, and I bugged David many times about getting an instrument rating. He laughed us off. I used to listen to his stories about flying IFR &nbsp;with no rating and it just made me sick. My friend knew his wife well and he even told her not to fly with David until hhe got his IFR rating . I remember that day like it was yesterday, I heard about the crash at Oakland Southwest airport, and just had a feeling. I pulled over, opened up the Flight track on the phone. Saw the N &nbsp;number and the origin in North Georgia, where David was planning to build a second home, I guess a retirement home some day. I knew instantly it was him. Flying a circling approach &nbsp;at that airport, into that weather was just insane. If any of you thought this report was too harsh, it&apos;s true that he was one of the most arrogant people I have ever known. &nbsp;And if you think I am too harsh, his arrogance killed his wife and son.

  I once waited 3 days on the ground in Tucson, then flew home commercial, then the next Saturday flew commercial back to Tucson and had a beautiful flight back to Houston with 50knt tailwind and clear skies. There is no destination that important worth killing your entire family for. Breaks my heart.

  Wild to think that I pay more attention to the weather before beginning a 1 hour drive than these pilots did preparing for a 4 hour flight

  I&apos;m a aircraft mechanic for Delta, 27 years. Although I don&apos;t pilot, I do love these breakdowns. Believe it or not...makes me a better mechanic, too.

  This is tragic. &nbsp;I used to send these videos to my dad, he was a retired FAA airworthiness inspector and he used to be involved in these type of investigations. &nbsp;He lost his fight with cancer the day after Christmas. &nbsp;My first instinct was to text him the link to this video, it&apos;s gonna be hard not sharing these with him.<br><br>EDIT: &nbsp;Thank you all so much for the kind words, it has really been wind in the sails when I needed it.
