  As a Nigerian, I used to bIame coIonialism for Haiti&apos;s problems but as I got older, I came to see it&apos;s more due to their own issues. After the revolution, their founders reinstated the plantation systems, denied education and civic liberties to their people and mismanaged their economy. They also made terrible diplomatic decisions like how they invaded DR and occupied them too for decades or how they refused a British offer to become a protectorate, that would have afforded then shielding from France and better terms internationally, especially since Britian was already in the process of abolishing sIavery across their empire, or how they proceeded to massacre every European left after the revolution, which inflamed other countries. They have no excuses. Mexico lost land to the USA. Germany had to pay reparations for two world wars and had their country occupied for decades. Japan was nuked twice and occupied. Botswana and Namibia have terrible geography and were both coIonized but all these countries do better than Haiti. They have no excuse.

  This country has been given enough money to scrape everything into the sea and build a brand new home for every single person on the island. It is one of the most corrupt governments on the planet.

  My son works for a college and was once talking about them doing satellite locations. Several said Haiti would be a possible good location. He laughed (knowing Haiti) and told them there was no way they would ever put one in Haiti...He has a racial complaint in his file to this day because it so deeply offended a group of people who have never been and clearly have no clue the cesspool that is Haiti.

  Had a relative who was a cruise ship captain in the 80’s and 90’s and he told me that the boat had gotten new mattresses and they were going to donate all the used ones (several hundred) to the people of Port Au Prince and when they offloaded them, the army came in with guns and set them all on fire. Haiti has been a dump for decades.
