  looooved the video Sha'an !! maybe a video on COLOUR <3 in the future?? like just geeking out about colour, or your own approaches and abstract thoughts about colour, colour you love in other peoples work, finding colour inspiration out and about or in your own world... Seeing as its a huge part of your work and your general aesthetic, I think we would love to hear you talk about it! I can just imagine how pretty the video would be too. Hope you had a lovely christmas season <3

  Honestly the main reason I use cold press is for the sensory experience lol the feeling of my brush going over cold press paper with creamy Holbein gouache is unmatched 😍

  What you said about hot-pressed paper showing colors more vibrantly makes absolute sense. It’s the first time I ever thought about it, though, thank you! With cold-pressed and rough papers, you get all these tiny little shadows from the texture (in all but absolutely straight-on lighting), which would of course desaturate the colors to some fairly subtle degree.  Of course other artists love those textured papers for other reasons, like better water control, granulation effects, or textured dry brush techniques.  But for best color and for colored pencil work, hot-pressed is best 😂

  The timing of this video is spot on. The way paper can play with the psyche of an artist is not discussed enough. I've been experimenting with different sketchbooks and there are some where the paper throws off my ability to create anything I like. I purchased one from a creator I have a great respect for, but the quality of the paper is atrocious and it was pricey. When using it, I feel like I'm the worst artist who's ever walked the earth. When I switched to another paper, art felt effortless.
