I got onboard with the IHG based on your previous recommendations and it’s been great. The fourth night free has saved me a fair amount, but the platinum rewards level got me into a room in Munich ridiculously early.
I showed around 9:30am and apologetically asked if it was at all possible, the clerk looked perturbed, but when he typed in my name, his attitude changed. He thanked me for being a platinum member and said he’d find me a room. It was a huge help to take a quick nap and shower before going out.

The fees that are added for cleaning is just out of this world. We have quit staying in those.

I ran into enough problems with AirBNB, I had to let it go. Great insights.

I use Marriot points for their St Regis stay in Asia (ex Singapore/Japan). Agree with you about Hyatt ... it is by far the better loyalty program, and I think for the most part, Hyatt properties outside of the US are far more modern/updated than the ones in the ones I stayed in the US (to date). I also like the Brand Explorer program as it encourages you to try out different brands within the Hyatt family. I will be heading to the spanking new Park Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur in early September. It is running a promotion rate for members (inclusive of breakfast) for a very competitive rate. Yes it is brand new and there will be teething problems, but I am willing to overlook that for the experience!

I have status with Hyatt and Marriott. Hyatt is definitely my fave but as you said not every city has a Hyatt. They all have Marriott. Good backup

Hyatt has over 1300 hotels in their group globally, but IHG has over 6,600 hotels in their group globally. I like IHG more because they have more hotels across a spectrum- I can go for an expensive night for a quick business trip or stay at a high end hotel if I want with IHG. That is harder to do at Hyatt.

Thanks!! We travel only part-time, so that affects our preferences. We once stayed in an AirBnB that was great...but the battery on our unit's electronic door lock died, so we couldn't get in. Our host was far away and didn't have ideas of what to do. Luckily it was about 10 minutes before the person at the front desk was scheduled to leave, so he could let us in--then one of us stayed while the other one went to a store to buy batteries. But if there'd been no one at the front desk? Hopefully the host would've known a 24-hour emergency number, but yikes. On the other hand, once we arrived at a boutique hotel, and there was a sign saying "Call this number, and we'll be there in 10 minutes to greet you." Luckily we had a local SIM card so could make actual phone calls, but without that...? Yet we love staying in small, locally owned hotels overall for the sense of place and contribution to local economy, so that's probably our main first choice. If we were traveling full-time, though, we might really like the predictability of chain hotels from time to time.

I recently stayed at a Hilton Home 2 Suites. It was a great experience!!!!

It lived up to its name of being like home. You can even grill your food on the patio!!!

What I love about IHG in the States is ACCESSIBILITY - so easy to navigate their website and know what you are getting in terms of accessible rooms and showers.

I agree with you. You often find reservations for Hyatt with points for less than money. It's not the case in Europe with IHG.
My favorite brand is definitely Hyatt. Radisson is good too but with less hotels especially after they split the group in two brands.
