  You can watch as much NBA and study as much as you want History, you still a casual my man.<br>Even with a championship, &nbsp;this move will not be redeemable. &nbsp;It&apos;s like Mavs trading Dirk after 2006 finals, and winning without him. It&apos;s not the same as winning with him in 2011. <br>Luca Doncic is not a asset, &nbsp;he is a city icon.

  This might as well be a video compilation of your worst NBA takes. Offense is more important than defense in basketball, that&apos;s why transcendent offensive players who are weak defensively can have more impact than a player who&apos;s even pretty good at both offense and defense. Defense can largely also be addressed through a general team approach and some good athletes on cheap contracts. Yea that won&apos;t necessarily give you a backline defense the way having AD will, but you can get 80% of that with non-superstar contracts and a good defensive coaching approach. <br><br>Even in the short term this roster construction is bad for the Mavs as you addressed not just because they traded a player with future injury concerns for one with present and known injury issues, but now the entire roster construct doesn&apos;t even make sense because it was tooled around an offensive star, not a defensive one. The spacing on the floor with two centers (at this point in his career AD is just a center in denial, not a power forward) will be terrible because as you mentioned, AD can&apos;t shoot at distance. If Kyrie Irving doesn&apos;t score 40-50 points a game now your offense will fall apart.<br><br>This isn&apos;t 1997 basketball, you can&apos;t win games playing a bunch of 7 foot tall players who can&apos;t shoot and can&apos;t guard on the three-point line. Overall offensive skill is WAY higher now than it was back then when you could have a specialist like Dennis Rodman in your starting lineup who could just play defense and rebound. You&apos;ll score 90 points every game while the other team will score 130 because they&apos;ll either just shoot wide open shots at the perimeter where even shit NBA players can make enough shots to make that untenable, or they&apos;ll drag these slow lumbering centers out to the three point line and dust them off the dribble for layups every possession.<br><br>Even your argument that this is a business and the owner can do what he wants with the team is terrible. Luka was a star attraction driving ticket/merch sales more than the rest of the team combined. The city loved him an expected him to retire in a Mavs jersey. These fans all feel betrayed now and the org is already mass refunding season ticket sales presumably so their home crowd doesn&apos;t start booing the team off the floor for the rest of the season. I guarantee you team revenue will take years at a minimum to recover from this move. Even if the backlash wasn&apos;t this bad, doing the trade in secret without an open bidding process is horrible asset management because it guarantees you&apos;re not getting a good price. Now the Mavs are going for a Kevin Durant trade, and they don&apos;t have enough assets in all likelihood to get it done. The other lakers draft picks plus an extra player could easily have been the difference in getting the deal done.<br><br>There is no basketball case either in the short or the long term, and not even a basketball business/operations case for this move to be made. It&apos;s clear ownership was involved for reasons other than basketball because if the GM had done this on his own, he&apos;d be fired. If this is the beginning of your Skip Bayless arc where you make outrageous sports hot takes for a living and were trying to get a reaction, kudos, you got me. If you were trying at serious basketball analysis you failed with this one pretty badly.

  I know you&apos;ve always been high on AD, but no way the Mavs make the finals again. They wouldn&apos;t get past the Wolves or SGA if they had AD over Luka, Luka has that it factor where he will carry you through at least a couple playoff series. That&apos;s the thing Thoorin, it&apos;s not a lock the Mavs would make the finals, they only got there cause Luka clutched the fuck up.
