  The similarity that always stood out to me is Goku and Sonic having iconic rivals turned friends who barely interact with the next rival. Case in point sonic and knuckles being rivals then becoming friends but then sonic and shadow become rivals and you can count on one hand how many times shadow and knuckles interact. The same thing happens with Goku, Piccolo and Vegeta.
