Two things; first, around 4:02 you see a block and a circle, I see a bear-like creature. Second, I lived in New Mexico for about 10 years and did a lot of desert hiking and saw a lot of rock art. I thought I might try my hand at it with a modern hammer and chisel in an area where there weren't any pictures nearby. That rock patina is incredibly hard and I soon gave up after barely scratching the surface. These weren't just the casual drawings of a person with an hour or two to kill.

As a former archaeologist I always wonder about the pottery types. Of course not being familiar the field of the American Southwest- more familiar with the Mediterranean and Europe- I don't know if pottery types can be read in the same way to give culture and date (even within that culture) based on stylistic evolution. But I would assume so. But given your enthusiasm and often well researched treks, it seems such a shame to not spend a weekend at a university museum getting to know how to read a site from pottery fragments. Getting to see a span of dates from the different styles you find lying around- and an idea of who they were. Pottery usually can tell us so much.

@01:00 That rock spent it's whole life trying to escape that pool and you threw it back in! 😆

Wow, so many finds!!!! I love the joy and awe you have for each discovery. You saying "Nothing up here, except everything." made me smile! This was such an amazing adventure! I think that was a gray fox. I love the idea of the exoskeleton.

It always shocks that so few are aware that colossal Nazca-style geoglyphs of spirals can be found in SE Oregon's Harney basin. We've logged more spiral geoglyphs of scale in Montana, Utah and even Kansas. Do they all represent the same thing? Speculation suggests they may represent the path of life or the sun or even a supernova. The glyphs you're pointing out appear pretty fragile, with the darker layer exfoliating from the base. If the area gets wetter via climate change they could easily vanish. Odds are some cliff faces covered with glyphs have already cleaved free, ended up lying face down and now hide more carved sagas that future generations may discover. Documenting as many as can be found is important so thanks for making the effort and for enlightening everyone else. And wow, that's some top-notch eyesight to spot the little guy with the bow. Deserves an old school, "Rad!"
