I'm aware that I had used the wrong photo when talking about composer Mariko Nanba, and I said Sonic Lost World had unlimited lives when I was really talking about Sonic Forces. 😅I hope you enjoy the video regardless of those mistakes!

I owned this game for 2 decades, and so I decided to give a go and motivated myself to play it full today. Well, once I mastered the rubber band system, I actually loved the game. In the stage 4 and 5 of each area, there is plently of ennemy, the level design is good and the sprites/sound, scaling and graphics are actually insane. Loved the bonus stage as well. The amount of characters give this game full of replay value! For real, I love it. Really really good game.

6:33 This is actually a common misconception. Shogakuan actually had 6 different magazines for school grades 1-6 and each had its own Sonic manga that followed the concept of Sonic being the alter ego of a 4th grade hedgehog named Nicky. Both Charmy and Amy debuted in their final classic designs in early 1992. The weird designs of Charmy and Amy aren't beta designs; what happened was Shogakuan had multiple mangakas drawing for the 6 different mangas and one of them just basically did his own thing and didn't reference the official character designs like at all, lol. Vector, Mighty, Ray, and Amy all appear in an April 1992 promotional chapter of one of the mangas in their final designs, though Vector, Mighty, and Ray never appear in any stories of the manga. The Sonic Band was a concept for Sonic 1 that was scrapped. The Band, including Vector, appeared in a promotional manga for the release of Sonic 1 that told the story of Sonic 1. One of my favorite bits of Sonic trivia is that Vector, Amy, Charmy, Mighty, and Ray all predate Tails :)

That Green Hill Good Future Sprite Map was created by future sprite artist who worked on Sonic Overture, Pixy Or PicsandPixels.

That opening section with the Mystic Forest Zone reflection hit me right in the nostalgia.
Chaotix's (JP) plot has always been fascinating to me. The Sonic & Knuckles manual story retelling the Mushroom Hill Giant Ring event is already curious, but then this game confirms that the Giant Rings are digetic and actually runs with that, to the point of Eggman's goal basically being to use the rings to do the exact opposite of what the rings in 3&K did. And between Super Sonic using rings for fuel and rings usually leading to the special stages, it makes sense for the rings and the emeralds to be linked in some way.
EDIT: SonicRetro had a very interesting thread on Chaotix (titled "Adventures With Chaotix") that's basically people looking through the data with equal parts "unused" and "used, but so far out of the way that you'll probably only stumble upon it on accident" content.

Love this review/overview.
Playing this game in two player mode is absolutely amazing. When you're both in sync there is such a hectic controlled chaos that is unmatched by any game.

If Knuckles' Chaotix has a million fans, I'm 1 of them. If Knuckles' Chaotix has 1 fan, it's me. If Knuckles' Chaotix has no fans, I am dead or have been brainwashed by Big Sonic.

... that said yeah lol all your critiques are shared & valid. I prolly also rank it higher due to it being the hardest-to-find Sonic game, & the gap in my knowledge as a lass.

I love Chaotix, it's an amazing and chill game. The backgrounds are entirely drawn by the MegaDrive, back and front. Only the sprites are done by the 32X. Great display of what you can achieve with the full 64 colors out of 512, especially with the wonderful palette swaps for the 4 periods of the day. Also justifies randomizing the order to try and see all different palettes for each stage! Music also uses the MegaDrive only, and Door Into Summer main melody is actually the Master System sound proc playing (PSG). Such a great homage.
