I was also there for nine weeks! I was learning Khmer. My speaker list was STACKED. At the time Elder Russel M Nelson, Elder Bednar, Elder Cook, Nashville Tribute Band, Bonnie L Oscarson, Sheri Dew, Elder Oaks… I ought to go pull out my journal from the MTC and remind myself what they said.

I have had ground shaking experiences listening to Apostles speak. There are two pre-eminent experiences that come to mind…

First, when I was 16 I went to the 2013 National Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. Our Sunday devotional was done by Elder Anderson. It was pouring rain. Buckets, gallons, absolutely hosing everyone… Elder Anderson was sat up front under a tent with his wife and co-speaker whose name I’ve forgotten over the years. We did the sacrament (biggest sacrament meeting ever held by the church at the time, at over 3,000), and he got up to speak at the podium under the tent. He says how grateful he is to be there and then says: “I would like to test the Lord with you here today. I have faith enough, that when I step out from beneath this tent, the Lord with stop the rain that we might continue together in the light of his Son.” It’s still dumping, mind you. The mad lad goes to the very edge of the tent, stops to smile at the thousands of Boy Scouts, then takes a step out from under the tent… and I swear to you, the rain stopped IMMEDIATELY. I was floored. The sacrament meeting erupted with cheering and after we all settled, he bore testimony of the sacred nature of the principles we were living by being Boy Scouts, the dangers of pornography in the most powerful context I’ve heard to date, and about the reality of the saviors divinity and living influence on our lives. It was a pinnacle experience in my faith journey. I had the first couple minutes of his talk recorded and transcribed them into my journal, so that is a verbatim quote about the rain.

The second was on my mission in the Bay Area. My ward happened to be the home ward of Elder Cook in Foster City, CA, and he got up at the very end of fast and testimony meeting. I only remember how he ended his talk, but it gives me chills every time I think about it… he said “I know the Savior lives. I testify to you that I have heard his voice, and I have seen his face. In his holy name, Amen”. My comp and I looked at each other with our mouth hanging open. He didn’t stay to talk, he just took his wife by the hand and left the building. Since then I’ve taken the words of the living apostles much more seriously, and the words of the prophet even more so. Our church is amazing because it has Christ LITERALLY leading it. For all the organizational and personal faults that may exist, that truth and others being confirmed to me along with these experiences has helped me stay rooted in the gospel.

The days following 9/11/01 were the greatest days of unity I’ve ever experienced. It didn’t matter your race, your religion, your sex, your political affiliation…..for a time we were all proud Americans trying to comfort one another.
It was quite beautiful.

I can’t believe that terrible day was 25 years ago. We were living in a small town in Arizona at the time and it seemed like everything came to a stop. No one on the streets, no one in stores, school children sent home etc. My husband was a practicing dentist at the time and almost all his patients call in and canceled. After that I have ever seen Americans more united and patriotic. Everyone was saying, Never Forget. Sadly today it seems like almost no one remembers or cares and our country is tearing itself apart. President Hinkley’s talk gave us so much hope then and does today.

I was sitting directly across from you guys with my husband and two teenaged sons. My husband said hi to you in the hall-he was the really tall guy. The mom in me wanted to give you a big hug for all the good work you guys are doing! Thanks for being so firm in your convictions and brave enough to share them!

Boys I was blessed to be present when Jeffrey R Holland threw down the gauntlet and waved that blood stain Book of Mormon. It was epic and I will never forget it. My hair still stands on end when I hear him testify his love for Joseph Smith and the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

When Christ cleared the temple, he healed the blind and the lame right after (Matt 21 :12-14). His anger didn't chase away the spirit...
