  what a wonderful soul Mr. Benny had, he raised so much money for symphonies and orchestras.  he played for laughs but he was a gifted violinist.  if he had been as bad as he says, Mr. Stern wouldn't have had him on the same stage.

  Jack Benny was really a SERIOUS violinist...so good that he could combine fine playing with deliberate comedy.

  Jack Benny died 50 years ago he is still my favorite comedian and surprised to find my second favorite comedian named himself after Jack, Benny Hill 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

  ...Jack used to do benefit concerts all over the country for different orchestras and venues; he used to joke that the seat prices ranged from $2 to $100 a seat, but the $2 seats were down front, and the $100 seats were in the last two rows.<br>And for $250, you didn&apos;t have to come to the &nbsp;concert at all.<br>Priceless.

  I sure miss Jack Benny and the others of his generation (incl. my parents). I was born &nbsp;in 1950.

  Benny actually was a very good violinist - he&apos;d played professionally as a young man and clearly stayed in practice. &nbsp;The fact that even clowning around, he could hold his own with one of the finest violinists of his time says it all.

  There&apos;s an episode of Benny&apos;s television show in which his violin teacher (played by Mel Blanc) is in a coma. &nbsp;Jack comes to visit him, bringing his violin. &nbsp;The doctor tells Jack that the prognosis isn&apos;t good. &nbsp;Jack looks around furtively, and says to the doctor, &quot;You can&apos;t tell this to anyone.&quot; &nbsp;He then proceeds to play &quot;Liebestraum&quot; beautifully, and a smile spreads across Mel Blanc&apos;s face. &nbsp;Benny had no vanity. &nbsp;Comic genius, great human.

  This is from the special &quot;Carnegie Hall Salutes Jack Benny&quot;, which was mostly responsible for it being saved from demolition; in 1960, several classical music &quot;greats&quot;, headed by Isaac Stern, launched a crusade to keep the Hall from being torn down in favor of an office building. One of their projects was this televised concert [September 27, 1961]. Jack agreed to appear because he also wanted to keep Carnegie Hall alive...and he was also one of Stern&apos;s close friends.
