  The Hittites were a forward-looking people who loved to record texts in languages of other people they came across. A new Anatolian language Kalasma was recently discovered in Hittite archives from Hattusa (2023).  Blessed are the preservers of knowledge.

  As a retired records manager and archivist, I want to add some comments.<br>The Mesopotamians (Sumerians, Hittites, Akkadians, Babylonian, etc) are greatly admired in the records and archives professions because of their development of: &nbsp;administrative documentation; the recording of social customs; development of legal codes; basic historical chronicles; &nbsp;written communication in lingua franca of international relations and diplomacy; the first magical and religious texts; and, above all, the development of records control and archival conservation<br>Their choice of clay tablets was inspired. &nbsp;Even if their cities burned, the media used to record all this material would be hardened and made more imperishable in the flames.<br>This now means that we know more about the Mesopotamian cultures than Ancient Egypt whose records on Papyrus - made from reeds - were so perishable.

  They found a script which belongs to a new Indo-European-Anatolian language in Hattusa last weeks. Hittiteans surely loved to write down other languages. And that is so unique and fascinating.

  Her point about philologists’ bias for text and scribes— to perhaps errantly see scribes as intermediaries and/or agents of transmission rather than performers and the performative context— is excellent.

  btw, my first exposure to the Iliad was in high school in the 60s, when an entire semester was devoted to the subject and we broke up into study groups that had to come up with a project focused on a particular element of the story, to later present to the class as a whole in some creative form of our choosing. My group came up with the idea of &apos;reporting&apos; certain aspects as though articles in a newspaper, and we actually published a small newspaper to distribute to each student to read. A rather intense yet fun project which taught us to examine the different points of view of those in the story, somewhat as you and your guest did in this interview. I&apos;ve never forgotten the experience.

  Awesome video. &nbsp;I remember having having to translate the Aneiad in high school &nbsp;thinking what if there was some antolian evidence of Virgil&apos;s view.

  Hittite is taught &nbsp;at UT at Austin. The professor had his material in the PCL Reserves where I worked. &nbsp;On a slow day I would read his material on the Hittite. It was very interesting. When UT refused to give him tenure. He left . I heard that he died a few years ago. I don&apos;t remember his name.
