When I was 17 (1991),I went to the local part store and told them I wanted to change my oil. My father was disabled and unable to assist / instruct. The guy at the parts store was incredibly nice and helpful. He gave me step by step instructions and set me up with the parts I needed. Fast forward to present day - I’m an electro-mechanical technician by trade and a hobbyist tinkerer on everything in my time off. Having done probably (literally) a hundred oil changes for myself and others, I still enjoy videos of this nature by those that are passionate and knowledgeable on the topics. Thank you so much for all that you do!

Sherwood, you missed a crucial point. With the drain plug gasket, make sure the old gasket is not stuck to the drain pan.

A couple of things worth mentioning- A workshop as clean and neat as yours displays meticulous attention to detail and pride in what you do. This mindset clearly shows in everything else you do. Your approach to problems is scientific and perfectly methodical. Your knowledge is truly impressive, especially concerning diagnostics and the use of scanning tools(which have become quite challenging of late). You don’t shy away from challenges which would be easy and safe.
But most impressive of all, you don’t slag off other technicians or dealerships.
Thank you for a very informative channel that adds value across the board.

“It’s just an oil change.” It’s always the little things that people take for granted that come back to haunt them

When my oldest daughter got her first car, I taught her how to do the oil change with many of the tips you described. When she grew up and got married, she still changed her own oil, because she didn't trust her husband would do it correctly.

Although I do this all (now) every time I change oil, it's always a good idea to take a refresher course from such a professional shop.

Two years ago I gave my old car to my nephew, I walked him through the oil change process you just described. I had used a good garage to do the maintenance on my car’s for years.’
I found out the oil pan plug was very tight and it didn’t have any gasket on the plug.
I had purchased the oil filter for the oil change at the dealership and I bought the oil pan drain plug seals at the same time.
We went over all the steps and we changed the oil. During your video you mentioned not to over tightening the filter or the drain plug. The filter was so tight I had to buy a socket made to fit it from the harbor freight tool store!
I had been through the engine replacement for this car because of the double gasket on the oil filter before I gave the car away! Another shop failed to check the car and then it was driven off and blew up on the highway.

I ritually change my oil on my own for my two vehicles, but I still watched this to the end to review my work and reinforce these steps in my head.
