I did something similar to a sensor BMW wanted $470 for. I made an RTV sandwich with the old O-ring. I told myself I would do it right on the next oil change and just buy the sensor assembly that comes with the O-ring. 3 years later and that sensor is the only thing that doesn't leak oil on that damn engine.
