Porsche PDK, BMW SMG, and the Ferrari "Manuale"

In this episode of In The Garage, we’re diving into the controversial world of "flappy paddle" gearboxes and the evolution of the automanual transmission. From the vintage Porsche Sport-O-Matic to the modern PDK and BMW’s SMG, we explore how automation has changed the way we interact with our machines. We also tackle the newest (and perhaps weirdest) iteration of the manual: Ferrari’s "clutch-by-wire" gated shifter. Is it a brilliant piece of engineering that preserves the tactile joy of shifting, or is it just a "PlayStation" experience for the road? In this video, we discuss: The "Flappy Paddle" Debate: Why one of us hates them (and why the other ended up with one). The Evolution of PDK & SMG: From the Porsche 962 race car to the E46 M3. The Ferrari "Manuale" System: Is "shift-by-wire" actually better than a true manual? Real World Driving: An honest (and slightly confusing) experience with an SMG at an autocross. Whether you’re a die-hard three-pedal purist or a fan of lightning-fast dual-clutch tech, there’s plenty to debate here. Tell us in the comments: Would you choose a "fake" manual that’s impossible to stall, or do you need that physical connection to the gears?
