  Fellow retired Heli pilot here and that was the best explanation of a turbine startup I have seen on you tube for a very long time. Fantastic!  When I flew the MD 500D/E was my go to with the 206 coming in a very close second.  Many cheers  from the land down under.

  Great detailed explanation of the startup procedure, but just as I was getting ready to watch the instruments actually responding during the start (something I've done countless of times as a geologist sitting next to the pilot), the scene shifted to the external view of the engine for some reason, and the critical responses of the instruments, discussed in so much details in the previous minutes, was omitted. Perhaps edit the video to show this, and fix the audio after the start?

  My father flew a 206 through the ‘90s and ‘00s. In the pre - 9/11 era I spent a lot of time as a teenager in that left seat.<br><br>I could still do this process from memory, but every sound, from the cabin horn to the sound of starter spooling up brought me back 25 years. I can literally smell this video.<br><br>Thanks so much for posting this. Amazing piece of personal nostalgia.

  Gas turbine, diesel, gasoline .... something about watching, feeling and listening to an engine turn over, start, and speed up to idle. And add steam powered to the mix ... and then see these marvels of engineering translate combustion to physical movement of mass.
