  Hugely overloading a worn out, 44 year old vessel before taking it out into a major winter storm without a lifeboat was never going to end well.<br><br>That one of the Crew was so concerned at the condition of the hugely overloaded vessel that he refused to sail on it, despite being penalised by having his pay stopped, tells one all they need to know about its suitability to set off.

  You could have mentioned that the USCGC Mackinaw still makes the Christmas Tree run every year to give trees to needy families. After all, you put pictures in at the end of this tradition.

  I used to live in Two Rivers Wisconsin where the Rouse Simmons sank. They have a Christmas tree ship festival to this day. Lots of ships went down there, and parts of them wash up after every storm.

  I lived in Manitowoc and worked in Two Rivers, and this ship was part of the disasters of Lake Michigan display at the Maritime museum, with a Christmas tree that had washed up as part of the display

  I&apos;ve dove the wreck a few times. &nbsp;The masts lay forward of the hull. &nbsp;They must have come out when the schooner hit bottom years ago. &nbsp;The hull itself is intact and upright. &nbsp;The deck must have been made of pine as it has rotted away over the years. &nbsp;Christmas trees still can be seen in the hold. &nbsp;It&apos;s an interesting dive. &nbsp;With a quick search of the web it is easy to find video of the wreck.

  Be sure to checkout Lee Murdock&apos;s musical telling of the story. By the way the Simmons was rediscovered a few years ago still with trees still on deck.

  I think that the ship at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhstVJuqZUY&amp;t=82">1:22</a> was delivering breadfruit plants. On closer inspection she is the replica which went to Davy Jones Locker on October 29, 2012.
