  Years ago, I refused to plant zinnias. They were too folksy, too down home, kind of like sunflowers in that respect. I liked more exotic, showy types of plants. Then, one day, I had a packet of seeds that came with something else I bought, so I thought, "Well, why not, just this once". So, I threw them out into the garden. Let me tell you, those zinnias brought me so much joy! They were bright, they were cheerful, they were EASY, they looked awesome, regardless of whether they were in a vase or on the plant. I was sold! I've never looked back. Now, I would not be without them. They're one of my favorites!

  One year, I had a long stem of a zinnia break at the surface of the soil. I dug a long trench about 1” deep, the length of the zinnia stem, and I laid the stem horizontally in the shallow trench. 8 covered the stem with soil. I did this because the zinnia stem had little hairs on it, like a tomato stem. I kid you not, four new stems grew from that horizontal stem, each with their own zinnia blossoms. I know I have photos somewhere.

  I had an area that i threw down so many seeds because i harvest….i thought i’d thin them but instead i just left them alone.  It was such a full display of healthy zinnas, no flopping at all.

  I've been growing them for years, but your video has helped me see some things I've been doing wrong!  I had become kind of disgusted with them.  One thing that works well for me is when I'm thinning them I simply move them to other places in the yard with a trowel or spoon.  It works great and I find they do well if I get enough dirt with the plant and just stick them in an already dug hole.  Works best in the late afternoon.  By the next morning they are looking good.

  Zinnias are easy!  Mine have never flopped.  One year I had hundreds of Monarch butterflies on my zinnias.

  Damn girl, why don't you have a million followers?  This is so well put together.  I feel like most people cut and paste from the gardener's almanac.  You certainly have a follower. I feel like you may have the answers to my "whys".

  I grew Zinnias for the first time last year.  I was less than impressed and wasn't going to try them again.  Now I know that I did absolutely everything wrong.  I think I'll try again.  Thanks for the vid!
