I remember the first time I ever played Abzu, it was in the early morning in the middle of summer when the birds first start chirping, I found this game on my playstation then and was immediately blown away by the athmosphere (and the pretty fishes) I still reguraly listen to it's soundtrack

1:48 Oh man, really cool you're focused on invertebrates since I'm the opposite most of my research experience and upper division coursework was on vertebrate biology (particularly fishes). Love to get a new perspective on the stuff I love! You are the channel that keeps on gifting!

I played Abzu before Journey too. Abzu is arguably my favourite game of all time. It had a profound effect on my mental health and perspective on life when I first played it through. I just broke down crying at the end sequence. Probably the best therapy I ever get to experience.

A game I think you would really like is Beyond Blue. It goes through multiple oceanic zones, including hydrothermal vents. You scan animals to learn about them, and it is meant to be more of a documentary-style game.

This game is awesome! Glad to see you playing it.
Abzû was the first game I completed 100% on steam! Back then the later levels, where it got proper deep, were more horror to me. Now with the Subnautica games I got so used to deep sea simulations that I don't mind it at all anymore.

Have you ever played any of the Endless Ocean games? I would say the second game, "Blue World" in at least the US, is the best game in the series. second to me would be the original. Don't play Luminous, that felt like a cash grab, 0/10 do not recommend. The original and Blue World are on the Wii. I will warn if you make a video on it you might get copyright/dmca hit from the music.

I do own but haven't played Abzû in a while, but I decided to find its disc from the dark depths of my drawer, and play it.

"Everything about this game is what I want it to be" really sums it up, truly. I started watching this video a week or so ago and immediately stopped bc I needed to go play this game. I'm back now, having finished it, and oh my goodness. I am so glad I came across this channel and that you showcased this game.

Oh this is so fun! I'd never heard of ABZU before and it's a pleasure watching you explore. I'm not any kind of marine expert, but I like to casually study marine animals in my spare time and I noticed something in the game that I don't believe is typical in real life! Near the first kelp forest at the begining of the game, there were schooling California Sheephead, but the schools were of primarily male Callifornia Sheepheads. (And I'm not sure if California Sheepheads typically school either - males are territorial from what I understand but idk if being territorial and schooling are mutually exclusive behaviors.) You can tell because California Sheepheads are sexualy dimorphic; males and females look distinctly different with females being a relatively uniform peachy reddish color and the males having that distinct deeper red and black coloration with the prominent forehead. But a school of male California Sheephead isn't typical from what I understand, because all California Sheephead are born female! And when a group loses their male, the most dominat female will transition and become the male! All male California Sheephead are transmasc and they're one of my favorite fish because of it! 🏳⚧I just wanted to gush about them and this gave me an excuse!💕
