  After getting my M.A. in Literature and studying literary analysis, I signed up for a my first bible study at a Presbyterian church not knowing what to expect. &nbsp;I will never forget trying not to smile too much as we did a close reading of the book of Acts. &nbsp;Every literary device and common trope seemed to leap from the pages of this tall tale adventure which included &nbsp;a poisonous snake and ship wreck. &nbsp; Everyone in the group seemed to just accept the text as eyewitness reporting. &nbsp; Dr. Walsh was very insightful and now I want to read her books. &nbsp;Thanks.

  I believe and hope todays scholarship will push the boundaries on this Jesus narative! &nbsp;Scholarship is slowly eroding the dogma of apologetics with much better theories of origin. 🙌☮️

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR4dlr6Iajc&amp;t=625">10:25</a> Oh, we know why “Q” has to be dated so early, or even why we have to believe it exists at all! Especially as the sources we have seem to get dated later and later, and become less reliable as accurate historical narrative.

  One thing I got out of Passing of Peregrinus after multiple re-reads. &nbsp;The Peregrinus was ALSO a HADRIAN FRUMENTARII...a spy loose in Iudea between Kitos and Bar Kochba.<br><br>Enough questions were raised in the rereads to consider him an agent provocateur. &nbsp;Still manipulating guillable people. &nbsp;And making oodles of loot out of them.<br><br>I prefer to use the term &quot;prior grouping&quot; as who he was involved with. &nbsp;Without adding too much into that SINGLE paragraph on &quot;christians.&quot;

  We have Pontius Pilot&apos;s letter to Rome where he writes about the crucifixion of Jesus. For real. At least the most important part of the gospel is verifiable historical fact.

  Excellent discussion. Dr. Walsh’s challenge to the assumed straight line from Jesus, through early communities, into the Gospels really resonates with a question we explore in our forthcoming book, &quot;Christianity Before Jesus: How Revelation Became Biography.&quot;<br>We ask how much of the religious architecture later associated with Christianity: Diaspora Judaism, apocalyptic expectation, Wisdom, revelation, Spirit, and Gentile participation was already present before the Gospel biographies gave the movement a more coherent literary center. I wouldn’t presume Dr. Walsh would agree with our thesis, but her work opens exactly the historical space we are trying to examine.
