I understand why rebrands can be so expensive, but I don’t understand why businesses think they are necessary if the existing brand is good.

I would have done that BBC rebrand for 6 mil. They got ripped off.

I'm pretty sure the BBC News app logo is supposed to evoke a world map

and "Sport" is... speed lines, I guess?

Tbf, if a multi billion company asked you to design a logo that they would use to generate billions in profit... Would you charge them the same way you charged the kids making a lemonade stand?

Speaking of the UK, Have you considered looking at Royal Mail's brief idiotic rebranding to "Consignia"?

My brother by total chance was one of the people who actually scrapped it.

It's funny how I might not be keen on purely the logos, but when seeing how it fits into the wider branding I appreciate it more. The Austin one is a good example; to begin with I was shocked they'd throw away that "pedigree" of their classic logo, then seeing how it's their branding for animal and other services... It makes a lot more sense. The BBC is another good example; I thought making the letters smaller made the logo less readable and felt a silly change. But the new logos for the BBC apps felt really nice and part of a wider design philosophy. When the apps are installed on your phone, they look striking.

3:50 "some of the numbers even look illegible" you know this is the first time I've ever realised it's meant to be 2012 😭 its always just looked like a weird butchered representation of the British Isles to me 😂

The London 2012 logo still looks good now. 😂

Man theres something about that Pepsi and London 2012 logo that is so 2010s. They both feel very youthful and I definitely feel like they resonated with me as a kid. The wider branding of the 2012 olympics was really good imo also.

A while ago I worked on the launch of a TV channel associated with an existing media business. They spent over £100k on an outside company to the logo, which consisted of them typing it in a font and making a very slight kerning adjustment. Then they made me animate it for £500. It's currently being broadcast all over the planet.
